Great is the power of thine angels, O Christ!

PRAISE the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye peoples.

Great is the power of thine angels, O Christ! For being bodiless, they speed through the world guarding the churches with the strength which cometh from thee, O Master, and they intercede on behalf of the whole world.

FOR his mercy hath been abundant toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.

O ye Powers, Authorities, Angels, Archangels, Seraphim and Thrones, Principalities and Dominions, Cherubim of the inexpressible glory and the perfect wisdom, intercede now on behalf of the whole world.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Both now and for ever, and to the ages  of ages.

Theotokion.

HAVING obtained great benefits from thee, O Immaculate Lady, with the angels we honour thy child, who from the deepest compassion deigned to be born from thy womb, and make the human race anew.

  1. If only we could see visibly how the intercessory prayers are holding up the world, we would never cease to pray. Angels and saints, intercede for us!

“When a doctoral student at Princeton asked, “What is there left in the world for original dissertation research?” Albert Einstein replied, ‘Find out about prayer. Somebody must find out about prayer.” Cited in Leadership Journal, 1983, 43

    I always loved this story.

  2. I hadn’t heard that before! It’s so rare today for scientists to take prayer seriously. But then, I think most of us routinely underestimate the invisible world, and the hidden connections made by prayer. Elder Joseph the Hesychast was permitted to look into heaven often, and see and hear the ceaseless praise of God, and the blessings upon us, that we read about in the Apocalypse. That sort of thing changes one’s perspective completely. We are loved by more than we know.
